Effects of the Withdrawal from the EU

January 29

Ch. Dahlinger is ready to resume supplying our valued customers in UK

We are pleased to let you know that we have adapted our system and will resume the deliveries to our customers in UK from calendar week 05.

Until we receive our UK VAT registration, for the time being we have to process deliveries in this transition period as follows:

  • You receive the goods by UPS including an UPS invoice for customs duties and handling fees, which you have to pay.
  • Therefore, you will find on your CHD invoice underneath every single position a discount, corresponding to the custom duty, which results in a 100% compensation of your custom duties.
  • At the end of every invoice you find a general discount position, which compensates you by 100% for the handling fees, which you have to pay to UPS.
  • With this procedure we assure, that you do not pay more as before the withdrawal from the EU. It does not cause any net custom duties or handling fees. CHD will take over these costs.
  • We must mention that our invoices do not include VAT as we do not yet have a UK VAT registration.

You have to pay UK import VAT, which will be refunded to you as part of your standard VAT return. Here is an example invoice. It shows where the discount is on the invoice.

As soon as we have received our UK VAT registration, we will change the processing for the last time. From then on, we will take care of all customs clearance. You will be served in the same way as before the withdrawal of UK from the EU. You will receive the goods already cleared through customs and one normal invoice for your goods only.

We will keep you updated about further developments. In the meantime, please keep in touch with any queries we can help with.

Stay safe!

Best regards,

January 21

Dear customer,

First of all, we would like to apologise to you that we are currently unable to make deliveries to the UK due to the final agreement on Withdrawal from the EU, which was not complete until 24 December. Unfortunately, due to the short lead time, we did not have sufficient time over the Christmas and New Year to then integrate the new elaborate process for deliveries to the UK into our systems. We were also expecting to obtain the UK VAT number and EORI number required for exports from the EU into the UK during December 2020. These are issues outside of our direct control; we regret this interruption to our service and hope that you will bear with us in the interim.

We are currently in coordination with our SAP service provider to convert all UK customers to third country customers as now required by the new legal situation. This could only be commenced once the Withdrawal Agreement had been determined and until Christmas Eve this was not even certain. The necessary adjustments in our SAP system should be completed by the end of January. Only when this process has been completed can deliveries to the UK recommence.

We therefore expect that this disruption to our service is no more than 13 working days at time of writing. In the meantime, your order can be prepared in readiness for shipping as soon as practically possible so ensuring that the delay is minimised and only as a result of the import regulations.

Once this process has been approved, there will be a transitional period until we receive the UK VAT number and EORI number already applied for at the beginning of November 2020. We cannot say at the moment how long these registrations will take; all we know is that the UK authorities have been inundated with applications for weeks.

Until the UK VAT number and EORI number are issued, we can unfortunately only deliver duty unpaid, i.e. you as a customer must import the goods to the UK and pay duty yourself until further notice. You will therefore receive an invoice from Ch. Dahlinger (CHD) for a normal tax-free export delivery and, in addition, an invoice from our courier service provider UPS, which includes import VAT, customs duties and a presentation commission. The import VAT will be refunded to you as part of your standard VAT return.

The future settlement after obtaining the separate UK VAT number and EORI number for CHD will be as follows: Under this final solution, CHD will import the goods into the UK itself and any applicable export duties will be charged directly to CHD. CHD will then be able to deliver DDP to you. The invoices will then be invoiced with UK VAT (20%).

The advantage for you as a customer is that you will receive the goods as usual without any bureaucratic effort on your side.

Please be assured that we will do our utmost to fulfil every order placed with Ch. Dahlinger as you have been used to up to now. Unfortunately, we are unable to confirm delivery times at this time; any order confirmations will advise delivery as from 4 February, inclusive of UPS courier transit timescales. Delivery dates will be confirmed subsequently once the necessary adjustments have been made to our systems.

If you have any concerns and wish to speak with the company directly then please contact our lead agent in the UK, Mr Chris Dowrick, (Mobile 07702 021916, E-Mail chrisdowrick@btinternet.com) or contact one of our CHD Office staff members (Tel +49 7821 289420) at the registered office of our company in Germany.

Yours sincerely
